WoWMidnight appeared during the run-up to World of Warcraft: Midnight, the expansion that returns players to Quel’Thalas as Xal’atath’s forces invade and the Voidstorm threatens Azeroth. Its arrival fell around the Midnight pre-expansion period, when Blizzard was also using Twitch viewing rewards to promote the approaching expansion.

When this emote was active, viewers typed WoWMidnight in Twitch chat to use it. Viewers used it as a World of Warcraft: Midnight callout during pre-expansion and expansion discussion.
