TheThing

TheThing shows StarCraft player and commentator Geoff `iNcontroL` Robinson in a deliberately grotesque pose with his overgrown hair packed upward with gel. The photograph came from a StarCraft II podcast session where Robinson leaned into making ridiculous faces for the camera.

Viewers later petitioned for the image to become a Twitch emote. Twitch revisited the exact reaction in 2016 with a segment in which iNcontroL discussed TheThing himself, giving the image a documented Twitch life beyond the original photograph.

Viewers type TheThing for iNcontroL and StarCraft callbacks, or when an extreme hairstyle or deliberately weird facial expression matches the emote.
