TehePelo

TehePelo brings the Japanese expression `tehepero` into Twitch chat. The phrase combines a `tehe` laugh with `pero`, the sound of sticking out the tongue, and is used to play off embarrassment or a small mistake. Voice actor Yoko Hikasa helped popularize it as a signature gag before it won a 2012 girls' mobile buzzword award.

The Twitch character is Twitch-Tan, whom Twitch described in 2017 as the `super kawaii girl` featured in some of its global emotes. By April 2017, TehePelo was already anchoring `TURN CHAT TO WEEB MODE` copypasta, giving the Japanese phrase a documented anime-chat use on Twitch.

Viewers type TehePelo for a playful mistake or cheeky attempt to laugh off embarrassment, and for Twitch-Tan or anime-heavy chat callbacks. Historical copypasta also used it explicitly to turn chat into `weeb mode`.
