PogChamp

The original PogChamp showed fighting-game personality Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez with his mouth open and eyes wide in a surprised reaction. The frame came from a 2010 Cross Counter TV blooper video, while the command name came from a later “Pogs Championship” video in which Gutierrez won a game of Pogs. Twitch made the face a global emote in 2012, and it became one of the platform's standard reactions for sudden hype, shock and excitement.

Twitch removed the original PogChamp on January 6, 2021 after statements from Gutierrez that the company said encouraged further violence following the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Twitch then rotated a different PogChamp face every 24 hours before viewers selected the KomodoHype image as the permanent replacement.

When this emote was active, viewers typed PogChamp in Twitch chat to use it. Viewers used the original face for exciting plays, clutch wins, surprising announcements, unexpected reveals, close finishes, and moments where something on stream suddenly became much more intense.
