Twitch Global Emote
PJSalt
CurrentThe Origin Story
PJSalt turns fighting-game slang into a literal object. "PJ" comes from PeacefulJay, an early fighting-game streamer who identified himself in 2012 as a TwitchTV administrator, while "salt" comes from the fighting-game-community use of "salty" for someone bitter or frustrated after losing.
The emote literalizes that slang as a tipped container spilling salt. Instead of showing an angry face, PJSalt turns the feeling itself into a visual joke, which made it useful far beyond fighting games whenever a player, streamer or chatter reacted badly to a loss. Twitch later extended the same pun into its PJSaltan of Stream competitions at events including PAX East, PAX West and TwitchCon.
How to Use It
Type PJSalt in Twitch chat to use this emote. Viewers use PJSalt after frustrating losses, fighting-game sets, arguments about a result, bad luck, complaints and moments when a player or streamer is acting visibly salty.
