MrDestructoid

MrDestructoid is the green robot mascot of gaming site Destructoid. Destructoid has traced the mascot's design to the 1980s Smoking Robot toy, which shares the circular eyes and gridded mechanical mouth visible in the Twitch emote.

The robot existed well beyond the website logo. By 2010, Destructoid counted official Mr. Destructoid appearances in Bomberman Live, Bomberman Ultra, Agent Moo: Maximum Overdeath, Eternity's Child and Raskulls. Destructoid founder Niero also commissioned prop maker Harrison Krix to build a physical mascot helmet for the site's third anniversary in 2009. Krix described the requested redesign as `Chibi, but like a Transformer` and built illumination into the head.

Twitch chat turned the robot into viewbot vocabulary. In 2015, Hearthstone chat used MrDestructoid in fake automated messages such as a `viewbot` reporting for duty or an artificial praise script starting up. Later SaltyBet research records the same emote for AI-controlled and robot characters.

Viewers type MrDestructoid for the Destructoid mascot, robots and AI. It also has a long Twitch history as a viewbot joke, especially in messages pretending an automated viewer has entered chat.
