Jebaited

Jebaited shows fighting-game tournament organizer Alex Jebailey smiling while looking up at a screen. Jebailey founded CEO Gaming, short for Community Effort Orlando, one of the fighting-game community's best-known tournament series. The image comes from CEO 2016, where he was watching a Street Fighter V match on the venue's large screen.

The command combines Jebailey's name with "baited." In fighting games, baiting means tempting an opponent into a predictable response and then punishing it. Twitch chat broadened the same idea to fake messages, traps, bluffs and jokes that trick a streamer into reacting.

Jebaited spread rapidly after becoming a global in September 2016. The "Kappa outdated, PogChamp overrated" copypasta ended with Jebaited as the punchline, and Dota 2 streamer AdmiralBulldog used the term in an October 2016 video about an Aegis steal. The command soon worked as both fighting-game language and general Twitch shorthand for successfully fooling somebody.
