GRASSLORD

GRASSLORD is Twitch's chat version of Grass Lord, the nine-foot talking nature deity created for TwitchCon San Diego 2024 from the internet instruction to "touch grass." Grass Lord entered through the TwitchCon opening ceremony by knighting Twitch community leader Mary Kish, then spent the convention knighting attendees who bent the knee and swore an oath to touch grass.

The character was woven through the event rather than confined to one photo opportunity. Grass Lord appeared around Twitch Rivals, the Dino Dance Lounge, grass-themed quests, meet-and-greets, and other TwitchCon programming, while Twitch and DEPT created a global Grass Lord emote for the livestream. The oversized all-caps command fits the deliberately grand mock-royal character.

Viewers type GRASSLORD in Twitch chat for TwitchCon references, jokes about logging off and touching grass, outdoor or nature moments, and mock-royal approval from the lord of grass.
