GRASSLORD

Grass Lord grew out of Twitch and DEPT's 2023 TwitchCon joke of carrying a box of live grass around the Las Vegas and Rotterdam conventions so attendees could literally `touch grass`. For TwitchCon San Diego 2024, the same joke became Grass Lord, a nine-foot talking nature deity.

Grass Lord entered the opening ceremony by knighting Twitch's Mary Kish. On the convention floor, attendees bent the knee and swore an oath to touch grass, while TwitchCon app quests awarded Grass Lord merchandise including the Grass Amulet. Twitch also created the GRASSLORD Global for the livestream, bringing the physical convention character into chat.

Viewers type GRASSLORD in Twitch chat for TwitchCon 2024 callbacks, `touch grass` jokes, and mock knighting or oath-taking in the style of the convention character.
