The Origin Story

ExtraLife takes its command from Extra Life, the gaming fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life began in 2008 in memory of Victoria "Tori" Enmon, whose battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia inspired the Sarcastic Gamer community to send her games and gifts during repeated hospital stays. After Tori died in January 2008, the community created a 24-hour gaming marathon to raise money for Texas Children's Hospital.

Twitch became a major home for Extra Life broadcasts. In 2014 the platform created an Extra Life directory for National Game Day so participating broadcasters could be found in one place, and that year's event raised more than $5 million. Twitch later ran Cheer for Kids in 2017, donating to Extra Life based on Cheers containing the #charity hashtag, and also supported Extra Life through charity extensions and TwitchCon fundraising.

The ExtraLife global was added in June 2020, after years of Twitch and Extra Life campaigns. The exact current asset renders unusually simply, so the strongest story is the program named by the command rather than an invented visual character.

How to Use It

Type ExtraLife in Twitch chat to use this emote. Viewers use ExtraLife during Extra Life Game Day, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising streams, charity gaming marathons, donation milestones and other broadcasts connected to the Extra Life program.
