DarkMode

DarkMode became the center of one of Twitch chat's stranger interface Easter eggs. Twitch had offered a black chat background through Theater Mode as early as 2014 and expanded Dark Mode across its mobile and desktop apps in 2017. By September 2017, chat archives were already preserving the exact three-emote sequence `PowerUpL DarkMode PowerUpR`.

Users later documented that typing that sequence in Twitch chat toggled the site's dark theme on and off. The center emote is a grayscale man's face with glowing red eyes and angular red effects, making the `DarkMode` command visually fit the interface joke even though the person pictured has never been reliably identified.

Viewers type DarkMode in Twitch chat for dark-theme jokes, ominous red-eye reactions, or callbacks to Twitch's old `PowerUpL DarkMode PowerUpR` theme-toggle Easter egg. The sequence is best treated as Twitch history rather than a promise that the interface trick still works today.
