DarkKnight showed Batman and used one of Bruce Wayne's best-known aliases as the command. Twitch added it on October 15, 2021 alongside HarleyWink and WhySoSerious, forming a three-emote DC set built around Batman, Harley Quinn and the Joker. The trio arrived one day before DC FanDome 2021, which streamed on Twitch and included new looks at DC films, games, television and comics, including the new trailer for The Batman.

Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Bruce Wayne has no superpowers; after the murder of his parents, he trains himself as a detective, strategist and fighter and uses his wealth, technology and the bat identity to wage war on crime in Gotham City. "Dark Knight" became one of his defining names, alongside "Caped Crusader," so DarkKnight turned an established Batman title directly into a Twitch chat command.

When this emote was active, viewers typed DarkKnight in Twitch chat to use it. Viewers used DarkKnight for Batman and Gotham references, DC FanDome reactions, The Batman discussion, dramatic hero moments, or whenever chat wanted to invoke Batman through the Dark Knight name.
