:D

:D exaggerates the ordinary sideways smile by replacing the small curved mouth with a capital D. Read sideways, the large rounded letter becomes a wide-open grin, and Twitch's robot artwork follows that construction with squeezed eyes and a broad laughing smile.

Twitch also accepts :-D, adding the old-style hyphen nose without changing the reaction. The grin belongs to Twitch's long-running basic emoticon system, which by 2013 could also be displayed with alternate Turbo artwork rather than only the standard robot design.

Viewers type :D in Twitch chat to use this emote. :-D belongs to the same artwork family. It fits laughter, a successful play, a welcome surprise, a happy reunion, a joke that lands, or any moment where a normal :) would undersell the reaction.
